DT says goodbye, hello to editors

By Rowan Esquer, 2014-2015 Editor-in-Chief

It has been my great honor to serve as the founding Editor-in-Chief during the first year of The Dolphin Tail. I feel as though I am leaving a legacy at Bay Farm by helping to begin this student publication, which I am sure will grow and flourish in the coming years.

As you may know, I am finishing 8th grade at BFMS and will be attending Alameda High School next year. Although I am excited for this new phase of life to begin, I am also sad to leave the school I have been attending since kindergarten.

In my absence, who will be replacing me as editor of the newspaper next year?

We have an amazing staff working on The Dolphin Tail, and several of them would have been good candidates for the position. But one staff member has shown to me, consistently, that she has the leadership and skills to take over this position.

Introducing your new Editor-in-Chief for next year’s Dolphin Tail: Waverley Achacoso!

A current 6th-grade member of the staff, Waverley has been an active reporter and the Submissions Editor this year. I believe she will be a wonderful Editor-in-Chief for the newspaper. She is ambitious, bright, and knows her way around the paper. I have observed, by looking at the stories she has turned in, that she knows better than anybody the format of how to write a good and strong story.

In personality, she is very sweet, caring, and makes friends with anyone and everyone she meets. She also has shown consistent leadership: She has helped others with stories, reminded staff members of deadlines, and overall has been efficient in her time and responsible.

By Waverley Achacoso, 2015-2016 Incoming Editor-in-Chief

Hello all Dolphin Tail readers!

As many of you know, I am a 6th grader going into 7th grade at BFMS. I am currently a reporter and the Submissions Editor, but I am excited to know that I will be Editor-in-Chief next year! I have never been editor of any newspaper before, and I am happy to have my first experience next year! I know that as Editor-in-Chief, I will face many challenges, but I am up for the task.

I will need some more recruitments, however, since all our 7th and 8th graders will be moving on to other schools! If you are interested in joining The Dolphin Tail, I hope you will join us next year and see if it’s right for you. I can tell you that it’s a great experience!

I am very excited for this job, and I could probably write that sentence 3-million times in this article, but I’ll decide not to.

Thank you to Rowan Esquer, who has been a wonderful Editor-in-Chief. Bay Farm students, parents and teachers should admire her efforts in beginning this newspaper. Right from the start she made sure that the newspaper would be a big hit in our school. I must say a big congratulations to her, and I hope high school is a great experience for her.

Waverley Achacoso

I’m looking forward to next year!
