Champions League soccer battle for glory

By staff writer Kyle Wonzen

The Champions League. It says it in the name, Champions.

The top teams of the most successful soccer leagues in the world — Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Chelsea, PSG, Arsenal, Juventus, Manchester City, and 24 other teams, a total of 32 — have been battling it out for fame and glory this spring.

It’s difficult to compete in the Champions League as some teams are competing in three competitions at the same time. Most of the top players around the world — such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano, Ronaldo, Manuel Neuer, Arjen Robben, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic — have competed in the Champions League.

The group stages and most of the competition have ended, with teams such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint German now eliminated. Upsets such as Monaco beating Arsenal, and PSG beating Chelsea, have occurred. Now that the semifinals have ended, the competition becomes a two-leg part, where each team plays two games.

Now, in the finals, Barcelona, the Spanish giants, will play against the Italian team Juventus, also known as the old lady, in Berlin. Will the experience of Juventus, with Andrea Pirlo, Giorgio Chiellini, and Gianluigi Buffon, outlast Barcelona’s star-studded squad with Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, Luis Suarez, and Andres Iniesta?! We’ll see! The final will be held on Saturday June 6th, at 11:45 a.m. Pacific Time.
